I grew up in a rural part of Colorado, became interested in technology but quickly ran out of room to grow. I turned to Art, photography in particular. But it was always Games that captured my imagination. I felt limited in photography only being able to share a single viewpoint, a moment. With games I am able to share a part of my brain, my self and have a conversation with my audience.
I attended Champlain College and received my undergrad in Electronic Game Design along with meeting Matt Brand, Michael Hopke and Marguerite Dibble who I would founded Birnam Wood Games with. For three years we worked together creating technology and games for a variety of clients for web, mobile and tablet marketplaces. I worked and lead on numerous projects, published two games, and learned an incredible amount from the experience. However the company wanted to move in a different direction and Game Development has always been my dream.
I left to purse an education at the Denius Sam’s Gaming Academy in Austin Tx. It is a intensive 9 month program spear-headed by Warren Spector (creator of Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock, & Epic Mickey) which focuses on leadership. In addition the program also explores concepts such as: creating a concept, collaboration, development tools & methodologies, Team structure, Hiring, Team building, studio culture, managing and organizing development.
As a new generation of game developers begins to come into their own, who played games all their lives, who attended university and hold degrees in their field, the industry has to change, has to evolve and I want to be a part of the change.
